Thing 4: Upload media from your phone or tablet – Five Things you can do with the VLE app

Thing 4 is linked to the feature we mentioned in Thing 3 yesterday, as it concerns blogs, journals and discussion boards. As well as being able to type your posts using the app, you can upload photos and videos directly from your device. This would be very useful for those who are doing fieldwork or other practical work and want to upload photos and videos on the go without having to wait until they can sit down at a PC. It is also possible to sync up apps such as Drop Box and Google Drive to upload documents and files. However, it is not possible to upload assignments that are stored in Google Drive or Drop Box. Unfortunately, assignments are one of the features that are not supported by the app.

Don’t have the app yet? Here’s some quick instructions on how to get it:

  1. Install “Blackboard Mobile Learn” from your iTunes or Google Play app stores.
  2. Open the app and search for University of York.
  3. Select University of York from the list that appears. Do not select York University (that’s in Canada).
  4. Log in using the username and password you normally use to access Yorkshare.

Tweet us at @UoY_Yorkshare or use the hashtag #yorkshareapp to let us know what you think of the app.

Visit the dedicated page on our website for the Yorkshare Mobile App.
