Collaborate: Guest links

Do you want to use our online seminar/web conferencing tool with users outside the University? If so, simply change your Collaborate Room or Session to allow Guest Access.

Making a Collaborate room guest accessible

  1. Within your VLE site, go to Course Tools > Blackboard Collaborate.
  2. For rooms, click the Edit Room link. For sessions, hover over the session, click the arrow that appears and choose the Edit Session option from the popup menu.
  3. Under Room Attributes, change these settings:
    • Recording Mode: Disabled
    • Allow Guests: On
  4. Under Roles and Access, change these settings:
    • All users join as moderators: Unchecked.
    • Restrict access to this session: Unchecked.
  5. Click Save.

Sharing the Guest URL

  1. Within your VLE site, go to Course Tools > Blackboard Collaborate.
  2. For rooms, click the Invite Guests link. For sessions, hover over the session, click the arrow that appears and choose the Invite Guests option from the popup menu.
  3. A popup appears, select and copy the Public URL.
  4. Paste into an email that provides instructions for joining the session, or add this as a link to the course menu or content area within the VLE site.

Update on student links

This post was originally made available as there were problems with the student links within VLE sites. That issue was resolved on 11 Dec 2014 and links added to VLE content areas will work for students now.
