Google hangouts for distance learning seminars – case study

Screenshot of Case StudyWe are starting to see more interest in what Google hangouts can do, particularly to support small group teaching for Distance Learning students. For those of you wanting to see this in action, this short case study from Leicester DeMontford is pretty interesting, appearing to show a successful approach where students communicate through the text based chat app while the instructor can talk to the entire group. Happily some of the issues about account creation for students won’t apply here as we should all have Google accounts for our e-mail, calendar, drive etc.

We’re hoping to be able to write up some more examples of  how colleagues here are using Google Hangouts but in the meantime, hopefully this will whet your appetites (note: I couldn’t get the video to work in Chrome but it did load eventually in FireFox)
